Outline (in English)

This class will focus on aspects of the modern Islamic world. Since the 18th century, the Islamic world has been exposed to the wave of modernization (= westernization), and trials and errors have been carried out on how to connect modern society with Islam. This activity is still in progress in the 21st century. In this class, we aim to promote understanding of various Islamic topics taken up in the media, including their historical background, and to provide a perspective that relativizes general Islamic perceptions.
