Outline (in English)

With the development of global society, the arts have become internationalised and have built a borderless value system. Cultural policy is heavily involved in international politics and is closely related to the policies and political philosophies of individual countries. It is a cultural policy that has developed in liberal states, particularly in Europe and the USA. It is also an essential modern system for the development and promotion of art and culture in Japan. Through this course, students will gain insight into the trends in cultural policy in various countries (mainly the USA, UK, Germany, and France), which will lead to a comparative analysis of domestic and international cultural policies. In particular, we will explore cultural policies that contain an international perspective in view of the constantly changing global situation. At the same time, by turning our attention to the contemporary challenges of Japanese society, we will examine the social structure for the encouragement of cultural activities in civil society.
