Outline (in English)

This course aims to introduce various aspects of American society and its culture while using and improving 4 skills of English, reading, writing, listening and speaking. Through pair work practices and group activities, the course will help students to expand their active vocabulary and get used to expressing their opinions in written and spoken English and responding to others. In addition to studying the textbook, students will also familiarize themselves with authentic materials offered in English. Besides, each student will search independently for an interesting article on a current topic in American life found in English newspapers and magazines and then will give a presentation on it. Students' required study time for each class meeting is at least one hour. Grading will be based on class participation (35%), assignments & weekly quizzes (35 %), presentations (30%). In principle, no more than 3 absences will be permitted per semester for students to receive an academic credit for the course.
