Outline (in English)

Course outline: This course introduces the basic knowledge of the Newtonian mechanics to students taking this course. It also helps students acquire way of thinking from a scientific perspective.

Learning Objectives: By the end of the course, students should be able to do the following:
・Understand the Newton’s laws of motion and universal gravitation
・Explain the motion of falling objects and the similarity to the revolution of the moon
・Describe the scientific definition of the work and energy
・Discuss the basic mechanism of a rocket escaping the gravity area of the Earth
・Explain the Coriolis force and its effects on meteorological phenomena

Learning activities outside of classroom: Before/after each class meeting, students will be expected to spend four hours to understand the course content.

Grading Criteria/Policy: Grading will be decided based on mini-exam in each class meeting (50%) and term-end report (50%).
