Outline (in English)

【Course outline】 The dance classes offered in physical education programs at schools are not solely for the purpose of allowing students to engage in dance and enjoy themselves, but they also serve as a means for students to enhance their capacity to express themselves and communicate with others, just like other physical activities. As a result, it is crucial not only for students to possess the ability to dance but also for teachers to have a comprehension of "dance expression" and the proficiency to express themselves. Throughout this course, students will have the opportunity to experience significant dance forms offered in school physical education and acquire the capability to teach "expressive activities" in junior high and high schools while focusing on enhancing their expressive and communication skills.
【Learning Objectives】(1) As a physical education instructor, it is essential to possess the ability to teach "expressive activities" in dance. This necessitates the acquisition of knowledge regarding the utilization of the body and the techniques necessary for the expression of dance, fostering a positive attitude towards self-expression, and the capacity to instruct such activities. (2) The development of communication skills is paramount. Students can acquire the "expressing one's own opinions while accepting the opinions of others" mentality, as well as the necessary traits to become an effective instructor through group work, including experience in creating works, on an hourly basis.
【Learning activities outside of classroom】The required materials and texts for pre- and post-class studies will be accessible online, as required. The customary time allocated for class preparation and review is two hours.
【Grading Criteria/Policy】Regular points (40%): Overall evaluation of students' attitude toward the class. Submissions (30%): Evaluation will be based on the students' regularly submitted notebooks, reports, and study guides. Practical skills (30%): Evaluation will be based on various steps, movements, composition, etc., with a focus on presented works.
