Outline (in English)

In this lecture, we will trace back the history of regional and urban sociology in Japan historically, and discuss the possibility of analyzing regional societies that sociological researches in these fields have not been able to make into problems. The purpose of this course is that students will acquire a perspective for analyzing regional society that differs from the mainstream of regional and urban sociology in postwar Japan. For that purpose, the perspectives of folklore studies, cultural (urban) anthropology, media studies, and overseas Japanese studies will also provide clues.
Students are expected to submit their reaction paper via Hoppii after each class. Your study time will be more than four hours for a class.
Your overall grade in the class will be decided based on the following
Term-end examination: 72%, reaction paper after each class: 28%
