Outline (in English)

Course outline: This course outlines the history of ancient Rome from its birth to the end with an eye on the connection to the Medieval Europe.
Learning Objectives: The followings are the goals of this course.
- Students are able to acquire fundamental knowledge concerning the history of ancient Rome.
- Students are able to explain the structural changes in the Roman society, not only from the aspect of 'seperation', but also from the aspect of 'continuity'.
Learning activities outside of classroom: Before/after each class meeting, students will be expected to spend four hours to understand the course content. They are required to read relevant books, such as those listed in the reference section, and learn by themselves.
Grading Criteria: Grading will be decided based on term-end examination (80%) and in-class contribution (20%).
