Outline (in English)
Course outline: This course outlines the history of ancient Rome from its birth to the end with an eye on the connection to the Medieval Europe.
Learning Objectives: The followings are the goals of this course.
- Students are able to acquire fundamental knowledge concerning the history of ancient Rome.
- Students are able to explain the structural changes in the Roman society, not only from the aspect of 'seperation', but also from the aspect of 'continuity'.
Learning activities outside of classroom: Before/after each class meeting, students will be expected to spend four hours to understand the course content. They are required to read relevant books, such as those listed in the reference section, and learn by themselves.
Grading Criteria: Grading will be decided based on term-end examination (80%) and in-class contribution (20%).

古代ローマ世界の誕生から終焉に至るまでの歴史をヨーロッパ中世世界への接続も射程に入れて学ぶ。
到達目標Goal
到達目標は以下のとおり。
・古代ローマの歴史に関する基礎的知識を習得する。
・古代ローマにおける社会構造の変質や転換を「断絶」だけでなく「連続」という観点からも説明できる。

授業は講義形式で行うが、授業時間内に質疑応答の機会を設ける。さらに、授業終了後に毎回リアクションペーパーを提出してもらうことで、受講生の理解度、関心事項、疑問点等を確認しながら授業を進めていく。

本授業の準備学習・復習時間は、各２時間を標準とする。参考書として挙げた書籍などを用いて、自主的に学習することが求められる。

リアクションペーパーを通じた質疑応答の方式を引き続き積極的に活用する。授業内容と直接かかわらずとも、受講生の学習にとって助けとなる質問も取り上げるなどして、広く西洋前近代史への関心を高めることに努める。
