Outline (in English)
The course will provide a strong foundation in intermediate and advanced reading skills. The course will seek to increase students’ reading fluency and comprehension while reading a variety of interesting stories and articles. The skills of prediction and the comprehension of main ideas will continue to be developed. A focus on language details will also help to develop reading skills, such as raising awareness of new features of grammar and vocabulary.

授業の概要と目的(何を学ぶか)Outline and objectives
このコースでは、中級から上級のリーディングスキルの基礎をしっかりと学びます。様々な興味深い物語や記事を読みながら、流暢な読解力と理解力の向上を目指す。また、予測力と主旨の理解力も引き続き伸ばします。また、文法や語彙の新たな特徴への認識を高めるなど、言語の細部に焦点を当てることで、読解力を養います。
到達目標Goal
The primary aim of this course is to prepare you for extended study abroad in a university in an English speaking country. Students will receive training and experience in critical reading skills to analyze, synthesize and evaluate articles from sources such as periodicals and newspapers. The texts will be chosen to cover issues important to many students. Students may also do extensive reading appropriate for their level. In addition to reading, students will also engage in written and spoken activities/assignments.

The professor will provide a mix of lecture-style and workshop classes. Feedback will be provided face-to-face, through Hoppii or LessonAccess. Regarding review/preparation, the standard preparation and review time for this class is two hours per week: 1 hour preparation and 1 hour review
