Outline (in English)

This course aims to deepen your knowledge of Japanese modern literature while fostering your ability to analyze works from various perspectives and develop your own unique perspective and originality of thought in reading them.
In the first half, we will focus on the works of Masaoka Shiki, Natsume Soseki, and Mori Ogai, comparing and examining their views on life and death. We will also explore the Meiji period's social conditions and Japanese views on life and death to gain a deeper understanding of the works.

In the second half, we will analyze modern literature from a multifaceted perspective, focusing on the following themes:

Content Tourism and Literature: We will explore cases where literary works are utilized as tourism resources and the appeal of traveling to places depicted in literary works.
Literature and Local Communities: We will examine literary works rooted in local communities and explore their relationship with local history and culture.
Unearthing New Materials: We will introduce examples of the discovery of new materials and learn how to analyze them, deepening our understanding of author and work studies.
