Outline (in English)

The lecture introduces the trajectory of China's economic growth from historical and macroeconomic perspectives, the pattern of the transition from a planned economy to a socialist market economy, and the facts and problems of the modern Chinese economy. introduces the determinants of the economic development in China from a microeconomic perspective, using many kinds of data (i.e., government official statistical data, academic survey data etc.). The topics’ targets focus on individuals, households, firms, and industry sectors. We also discuss some special issues on state-owned enterprise reform, enterprise innovation, industrial structural transformation, inequality issues such as income and social security inequality between rural and urban residents and understand the facts, issues and mechanisms in Chinese economy from a microeconomic perspective.We will explore the factors behind China's economic growth from multiple perspectives and institutional transitions comparing with the developed countries.

The goal is to comprehend the situations and issues in the Chinese economy from a macroeconomic and microeconomics perspective and to develop the academic capability to elucidate the features of the Chinese economy using economic theories and data from the Chinese government's statistical sources, as well as various academic surveys.
