Outline (in English)

【Course outline】
【Reading English newspapers for the first time】
In this course, students will use a textbook for reading English newspapers, leading them to study business administration, business strategy, marketing, finance, and accounting. Additionally, students will be exposed to actual English newspaper articles. With the increasing accuracy of machine translation, such as Google Translate, the task of translating between English and Japanese has shifted from humans to AI. What remains for humans is to speak in English with our own voices, listen to English with our own ears, think in English with our own minds, and write in English with our own hands—enjoyable experiences. Despite the fact that we are aware of cars being faster than humans, we still compete in marathons for speed, relay races for teamwork, and enjoy jogging. The emphasis in this class is on reading English. Students who can read English with good pronunciation will be able to understand English spoken by native speakers.

【Learning Objectives】
(1) The aim of this course is to enable students to read English with clear pronunciation. Clean pronunciation implies pronouncing English at a level that native speakers can easily hear and understand.
(2) Another objective is to enhance your listening comprehension. Students practice this skill while enjoying English by using the CDs provided with textbooks, watching videos, and listening to music.
(3) Students will acquire key vocabulary in English related to management fields, as featured in English newspapers.
(4) Through reading English newspapers, students will grasp the link between the specialized field of business administration and real-world corporate management.

【Learning activities outside of classroom】
Before/after each class meeting, students will be expected to spend four hours to understand the course content.

【Grading Criteria /Policy】
28% for active class participation and regular attendance attitudes.
42% for in-class attendance check tests and assignment submissions.
30% for the final exam (written test or report assignment).
