Outline and objectives

We will develop and improve your presentation skills. You will practice speaking English in pairs and small groups and make individual and small group presentations on general English topics.

Goal

At the end of the course, students should have improved their oral communication skills and confidence when speaking English in pairs, small groups and in front of an audience. Students should understand the importance of good posture, eye contact, gestures, stage position, voice projection and enunciation in basic presentations.

In class listening activities and exercises using textbook audio and video resources and Communicative Language Teaching methods. Students will work in pairs and small groups using English in an enjoyable and communicative way. Students will give peer-to-peer feedback on presentations and will be provided with feedback from the lecturer on an ongoing in-class basis and via Google Classroom (Students will be asked to submit PowerPoint presentations on Google Classroom).

Overview of syllabus and explanation about class contents.

第2回[対面/face to face]:Unit 1: Passions.

Students learn about music and movie genres, talk aboutlikes and dislikes and study basic presentation introductions.

第3回[対面/face to face]:Unit 1: Passions. Blue Grass from New Jersey.

Students give 2-3-minute presentations in small groups, watch a video and practice introducing themselves. Presentation overviews.

Students learn about jobs and spending money.Students practice talking about daily routines in pairs and small groups. Presentation main bodies/details.

第5回[対面/face to face]:Unit 2: Spending Habits. Wearing Nothing New.

Students learn about used clothing and the environment, watch a video, study effective body language and presentation conclusions.

Students learn aboutjobs and discuss their future worklife. Students listen to an interview with a TV presenter and make a complete presentation plan.

Students make individual presentations about people they know in small groups and receive peer feedback.

Students learn about people with unique abilities and practice describing them. Students speak in pairs and small groups about their own talents.

Students discuss pro-gaming in pairs and small groups and watch a video about a beatboxer.

Students practice describing things and how they work, discuss wearable technology and learn about using gestures effectively.

Students watch a video and practice using gestures.Students engage in small group work and design a new app.

Students practice describing sequences and listen and speak about how to cope with exam stress.

Students make individual presentations on a favourite piece of technology in small groups and receive peer feedback.

Work to be done outside of class (preparation, etc.)

Students should prepare for class as instructed, do topic background research and plan and practice short presentations for in-class activities (2-4 hours).

Grading criteria

In-class participation in classroom activities, individual and small group presentations (50%). Homework (30%). Participation in speaking review activities (20%). Timely submission of homework assignments, regular attendance and active participation in class activities are required in order to pass the course.
