Outline (in English)

English Classroom learning with an In-House Interpreter

Learning Objectives
Purpose 1 : To acquire the English skills required in the real world
→ Aiming to acquire the English skills and ways of dealing with English that will be required in 2028, when the current first-year students are going to start to work, and to transform from exam-oriented English up to high school to practical English in the real world.

Purpose 2 : To acquire communication and interpersonal skills required in any organization
→ Engage in group and pair work to learn to communicate respectfully and responsibly with others, and to make English classes a place to interact with peers and make lifelong friends.

Purpose 3 : To learn how to use digital tools necessary for learning English today
→ Understand and practice the use of visual tools such as Youtube, business tools such as Spreadsheet and PowerPoint, translation tools such as DeepL, and other tools for future study and business use. The course will also aim to save time and improve efficiency through the use of digital tools.

Purpose 4 : Focus not only on English but also on content to deepen students' understanding of the economy and business around them.
→ Students will accumulate knowledge of the latest topics in economics and business by studying mainly the latest video materials carefully selected by the instructor, rather than relying on existing textbooks.

Learning activities outside of classroom
For preparation, students are expected to spend about 10 minutes looking up the meanings of words and keywords to be used in each class. For review, students are expected to study English newspaper articles and videos of their own interest, but this is optional and will not be assigned as homework. On the other hand, the group presentation in the second half of the course requires a considerable amount of preparation time, so students are expected to spend a total of 8-12 hours (2-4 hours for research, 2-4 hours for group discussion, 2-4 hours for slide preparation, and 2-3 hours for rehearsal) for this activity only, including individual research.

Grading
40 points for the final exam, 25 points for the group presentation, 10 points for the quiz (5 each), 15 points for the reflection report (in Japanese), and 10 points for the small test.
*Quizzes will be given at the beginning of the 6th and 11th lectures.
