Outline (in English)

(Course outline) The purpose of this course is to understand the fundamental concepts of public philosophy, namely "freedom" and "public," by tracing the development of social thought since the modern era, and to cultivate students’ ability to investigate contemporary public issues.
(Learning Objectives) The goals of this course are to develop an understanding of the fundamental concepts of public philosophy, namely "freedom" and "public" and their correlations, and to acquire the ability to investigate contemporary public issues based on this understanding.
(Learning activities outside of classroom) Students will be expected to have read the relevant chapter from the text and review it after the class. In addition, students are expected to share in the preparation of in-class reports, and to write a term-end report to be presented at the end of the class.
(Grading Criteria /Policy) Final grade will be calculated according to the following process; in-class report (30%), term-end report (50%), and in-class contribution(20%).
