Outline (in English)

This class will focus on the domestic and international energy and the climate issues, how to respond to the challenges that we are facing. First, students will be expected to deepen their objective understanding of the status of energy and climate issues, utilizing statistics and other materials. In addition, practical knowledge and insights will be shared in which the lecturer gain from the experiences in the current position in the thinktank, IEEJ. Based on these studies, students will expected to acquire a perspective on the issues and to understand policy options for solving them. Students will then learn about the international community, international cooperation, and Japan’s responses for the circumstances.
The aim the course is to enable students to think independently about energy and climate change issues from a broad perspective based on data and facts, to identify emerging issues, and to consider and discuss solutions for the future.
The standard preparation and review time for this class is 2 hours each. Slides for the class will be distributed in advance, so please read them beforehand to deepen your understanding. In the review, students are expected to review the class, gather relevant information on topics of interests so that to widen his/her knowledges.
Comprehension of the course (50%) and a short report (50%) will be used to make an overall assessment. Understanding of the class will be assessed by the reaction paper for each lecture. Short reports will be assessed by its submission and performance. Students will receive extra credits for active participation in the class.
