Outline (in English)

This course outlines the development of cultural and social theories since the beginning of the 20th century, paying particular attention to the impact of the so-called “linguistic turn" on the humanities. The goals of this course are to obtain basic knowledge of 20th-century cultural and social theories and theorists, to understand the inextricable relationship between language and culture, and to have a critical awareness toward the issues of the contemporary world. Students are expected to come to class well prepared by completing the required assignments; the required study time is more than four hours per class. The overall grade will be decided based on class participation (50%) and the final examination (50%).
