【Course outline】
Learn basics of the library science．
【Learning Objectives】
The goals of this course.
①Understand the function of the library and a role in the society enough．
②Understand the history of the library and the civic request for the library．
③Understand the significance of existence of the library as public service．
④Understand the specialty of the librarian and can recognize the role．
【Learning activities outside of classroom】
The standard preparation and review time for this class is 2 hours. Depending on the content of the lecture, we will instruct you to investigate terms and matters in advance. Use textbooks, and reference books for preparatory learning. Also, in the review, try to organize your knowledge so that you can explain the important matters of the lesson contents by yourself.
【Grading Criteria /Policy】
Your overall grade in the class will be decided based on the following.
Final report:50%、Short reports:40%、in class contribution:10%

授業の概要と目的（何を学ぶか）Outline and objectives
司書課程で最初に学ぶ科目として、図書館についての学習全般にわたる基礎的な内容を取り上げ、他の科目で学習する内容へのつながりや方向付けを示す。
具体的に図書館が存在する意義や役割、機能を理解し、歴史における図書館の歩みの概要を把握し、現状と課題、今後の展望について考える基本的力を養う。また司書に求められる姿勢を考える。
到達目標Goal
本科目の到達目標は下記の通り。
1．図書館の機能や社会における意義や役割について十分に理解できる
2．図書館の歴史、利用者のニーズについて、説明できる
3．公共サービスとして図書館の存在意義を理解し、説明できる
4．情報専門家としての図書館職員の役割と資格について理解し、説明ができる

授業形態は講義形式である。なお適宜、受講生との討論も行う。学習支援システムhoppiiを活用してレポートの提出、フィードバックを行う。また授業資料もhoppiiで配信する。

授業時間外の学習（準備学習・復習・宿題等）Work to be done outside of class (preparation, etc.)
本授業の準備学習・復習時間は各２時間を標準とする。準備学習においてはテキストを熟読して、復習では授業内容、専門用語を復習し、発展学習として参考書など関連文献を読むこと。

成績評価の方法と基準Grading criteria
最終レポート50％、課題（小レポート、調査）及び受講報告（コメントペーパ）等40％、平常点（出席・取組等）10％に換算して評価。合計で100点。60点以上を合格とする。
