By the end of this course, students are expected to develop ability of using English language skills to communicate in various situations.

授業の概要と目的(何を学ぶか)Outline and objectives
The aim of this course is to support students to develop ability of using English language skills to communicate in various situations by building on their prior study in Understanding English 1. The course enhances developing student’s English communication ability by using four language skills (Reading, Writing, Listening, and Speaking). Students are expected to work collaboratively with other students through various tasks. (Tasks can be listening and speaking actively in pair and group work, researching and presenting topics of interests, group discussion, You Tube presentation, etc.) Students are expected to actively interact with peers and express their opinions in English. For mid-term and end-term, students are required to demonstrate their learning through communicative tasks.

Students will do various speaking activities such as pair work and group work about suggested topics in the textbook. Students also do presentations using You-Tube. They are expected to work collaboratively to do various tasks such as group discussion, researching and presenting topics of interest.

This is the first time for the instructor to teach this course. However, the instructor is willing to be available to take student concerns under consideration throughout the semester.
学生が準備すべき機器他Equipment student needs to prepare
Students are required to bring either a smartphone, tablet, or laptop computer. Please make sure that it is fully charged before the class and can connect to the internet easily. Also, students are welcome to bring their dictionary (electric or book) in class.
その他の重要事項Others
Students cannot get a credit unless they complete the Academic Express assignments for the term. Students must also take the TOEIC-IP test held at Hosei University during the term.
