Outline (in English)
This course continues to build upon academic writing skills taught in the previous course. Students are further empowered to refine their writing skills by engaging with, analyzing, discussing and constructing more complex texts. This is achieved through a well structured and pedagogically valid approach to fostering the accumulation of compositional knowledge and successfully applying it to a multi-week writing task.

Students are further empowered to refine their writing skills by engaging with, analyzing, discussing and constructing more complex texts. - Apply a range of strategies to improve compositional knowledge of complex texts.
- Utilize compositional knowledge to write well structured complex texts.
- Express ideas and opinions in clear and concise text.

Lessons will be conducted face-to-face, utilizing an active learning format. In-class activities will include group work, pair work, discussion and individual tasks, making extensive use of laptop devices. Please be sure to bring your laptop PC to every lesson. Pre-learning and/or post-learning tasks will be assigned in accordance with the objectives of the course and will be conducted online. Feedback will be provided in English, both in class and online.

Review of the course content

Students will be assigned regular homework and will also be expected to prepare for each class by reviewing relevant materials, as stipulated by the syllabus. According to university guidelines, students are expected to spend at least one hour per week preparing for class.

- In-class smartphone use is strictly regulated. Unauthorised use of smartphones in class will result in a 1% deduction from the student’s “In-class performance” score.
- The syllabus may be amended to reflect student needs.
- To receive credit for this course the Academic Express assignment must be successfully completed (except 4th year students).
- To receive credit for this course students must take the TOEIC test (except 4th year students).
