Outline (in English)

Soil microorganisms have been utilized for various fields such as agriculture, medicine, environmental science. Additionally, many microorganisms in soils play an important role in circulation of nitrogen and carbon, resulting in the maintenance of stratosphere. Although most of microorganisms have been non-cultured, recent technologies enable us to analyze them. In this class, students will learn the overview of recent soil microbiology, the analytical methods such as DNA technology and the classification, and the utilization of the microorganisms (bacteria, fungi, mycorrhizal fungi etc.). Studies concerning microorganisms in soil and environment must be done outside of class. The result of the report or quiz (80%) and student’s learning attitude(20%) will be evaluated for your grade.
