Academic Writing (2 credits) for 【Outline and objectives】
This class aims at developing students’ basic knowledge of accurately constructing English sentences leading to writing paragraphs and essays in which students develop the foundations of academic writing. Attention will be paid to not merely translating to English, but to developing the awareness and skill of writing in a more English-like way, finding and researching good topics, and content-based writing. Classes are leveled and enrollment held to approximately 20 students in order to maximize teaching effectiveness.
Goal
This course introduces academic writing to Univesersity students.The goal will be the production of an essays in each subject.Each class students will study in stages, from sentence to paragraph to structure levels, all parts of effective writing. And the end of each class, students will write effective Englisi paragraph, and essay.
Work to be done outside of classroom
Work to be done outside of class (preparation, etc.)
Students will be expected to be self-motivated and do at least two hours of research on their chosen issues.
Grading criteria
Your overall grade in the class will be decided based on the following:Submission (30%). Quiz (40%). Assignment (20%). Group Discussion(10%)

「アカデミック・ライティング」2単位 【授業の概要と目的(何を学ぶか)】
本授業は、英文をセンテンスレベルで正確に組み立てるための基本的な知識や、自分の意見や考えをまとめてパラグラフを書く基礎力を身につけ、エッセイ・ライティング、アカデミック・ライティングを視野に入れた力へと発展させることを目的とする。伝えたいテーマについて調査し、その結果をパラグラフ構成に則って効果的に書く経験を通して、学生に達成感と自信を与える。授業は習熟度別で少人数で行う。

この授業はアカデミックライティングを紹介するコースです。各科目でエッセイを作成することを目標とします。毎週、文章から段落、構造レベルまで、効果的な文章を書くためのあらゆる部分を段階的に学習し、授業の終わりにはエッセイを作成します。

First,students will understand a comprehensive structure of the essay writing. Second, students will learn some expressions for it. Third, students will write the essay actually. Finally, students will prepare for the quiz given in the next class.
In class, students will discuss their research in small groups in after individually completing tasks assigned by the textbook to develop knowledge of writing in English.
