Outline (in English)
This class aims at developing students’ basic knowledge of accurately constructing English sentences leading to writing paragraphs and essays in which students develop the foundations of academic writing. Attention will be paid to not merely translating to English, but to developing the awareness and skill of writing in a more English-like way, finding and researching good topics, and content-based writing. Students will develop ability to write and express their ideas and opinions in English.

Students are expected to complete required assignments after each class. It will take at least one hour to complete each assignment.

The final grade will be decided based on the following:
Writing Task 1 (20%), Writing Task 2 (20%), Homework (20%), Reading Task (20 %), In-class Participation/effort (20 %)

本授業は、英文をセンテンスレベルで正確に組み立てるための基本的な知識や、自分の意見や考えをまとめてパラグラフを書く基礎力を身につけ、エッセイ・ライティング、アカデミック・ライティングを視野に入れた力へと発展させることを目的とする。伝えたいテーマについて調査し、その結果をパラグラフ構成に則って効果的に書く経験を通して、学生に達成感と自信を与える。自分で英語で文章を書き、自分の考えや意見を英語で発信する力を身につける。
到達目標Goal
Students will develop basic knowledge and skills of writing accurate English sentences that enable them to write paragraphs and essays developing the foundations of academic writing. Students should be able to write paragraphs with good vocabulary, grammar, content, and organization.

Students will focus on writing at the sentence and paragraph levels. Students will practice writing in both formal and informal styles, as they develop the skills they need to become more confident writers. Students will also improve reading skills through reading activities that accompany the writing tasks. The instructor will provide ongoing support and feedback for students.

Students are required to bring either a smartphone, tablet, or laptop computer. Students are required to bring paper notebook (A4 or B5 size), pens, and textbook. Also, students are welcome to bring their dictionary (electric or book) in class.
