Outline (in English)

【Course outline】
This class aims at developing students’ basic knowledge of accurately constructing English sentences leading to writing paragraphs and essays in which students develop the foundations of academic writing. Attention will be paid to not merely translating to English, but to developing the awareness and skill of writing in a more English-like way, finding and researching good topics, and content-based writing. Classes are leveled and enrollment held to approximately 20 students in order to maximize teaching effectiveness.
【Learning Objectives】
Students will be able to:
Write grammatically correct, logical, and reader-friendly English sentences.
Understand what clear and persuasive structure of sentences entails and become proficient in writing English sentences.

【Learning activities outside of classroom】
Your study time will be more than four hours for a class.

【Grading Criteria /Policy】
Attendance and contribution to the lecture: 35%
Essays: 20%×2=40%
Final examination: 25%

Your attendance to this class is mandatory.
Your contribution to the class is highly evaluated.
You are required to well prepare for class.
Final grade will be "D" if unauthorized absences occur three times or more.
For five or more unexcused absences, the final grade will be "D" as specified in the “Course Registration Guide” of our school.
Two instances of tardiness will be counted as one absence.
If you are absent on the day of the essay writing class and write it at home, the score will be multiplied by 0.8 (regardless of the reason for absence).
Additionally, for any assignments assigned during the semester, if the submission (date and time) exceeds the deadline by even a minute, the score will be multiplied by 0.8.
The final exam and the submission of two essays are mandatory. If any one of these is not completed, it will result in a final grade of “D”.
