Outline (in English)

【授業の概要(Course outline)】
This class reinforces the development of a rich vocabulary and accurate grammatical knowledge, and based on this knowledge, aims at the comprehensive development of the four skills (reading, writing, listening and speaking). In the science and engineering fields, English is the common language. Technicians and scientists of the future will need the ability to comprehend and communicate in English to meet the need of society for high levels of English. In order to meet this need, this class emphasizes the development of basic, comprehensive skills and knowledge and the ability to apply them. Based on the needs of students, a variety of effective approaches will be used to strengthen basic English competency.

【到達目標(Learning Objectives)】
1) To improve English grammar and vocabulary, and to read and understand English texts with academic content.
2)To improve listening and speaking skills and develop communication skills.

The standard study time outside of class for this class is 1 hour.
Review the contents after each class, and confirm what you understand and what you do not understand.

【成績評価の方法と基準(Grading Criteria /Policy)】
Mid-term exam (40%), final exam (40%), assignment submission (20%), the total of 60% or more is required to receive credit for the course. As a general rule, no credit will be given for four absences during a semester. Two late arrivals or early departures will be counted as one absence.
