Outline (in English)

1【授業の概要(Course outline)】
This class aims at developing students’ basic knowledge of accurately constructing English sentences leading to writing paragraphs and essays in which students develop the foundations of academic writing. Attention will be paid to not merely translating to English, but to developing the awareness and skill of writing in a more English-like way, finding and researching good topics, and content-based writing. Classes are leveled and enrollment held to approximately 20 students in order to maximize teaching effectiveness
                      
Students of this course will effectively learn certain skills required as academic writing: (chiefly) sentences to (progressively) paragraphs.This class aims at developing students’ basic knowledge of accurately constructing English sentences leading to writing good paragraphs, so that the learners would feel more confident as to the fundamentals of academic writing.

2【到達目標(Learning Objectives)】
By the end of the course, students should be able to do the followings:
1. To know how to describe matters and express their opinions,
2. To build up an adequate paragraph of certain, selected topics,
all on their own ordinary, academic surroundings.

3【授業時間外の学習(Learning activities outside of classroom)】
Before/after each class meeting, students will be expected to spend four hours to understand the course content and/or handle with assignments.

4【成績評価の方法と基準(Grading Criteria /Policies)】
Your overall grade in the class will be decided based on the following
Term-end examination: 50%、unit assignments : 30%、in class contribution: 20%
(At least 60% of all is required for grading.)
