Outline (in English)
This class reinforces the development of a rich vocabulary and accurate grammatical knowledge, and based on this knowledge, aims at the comprehensive development of the four skills (reading, writing, listening and speaking). In the science and engineering fields, English is the common language. Technicians and scientists of the future will need the ability to comprehend and communicate in English to meet the need of society for high levels of English. In order to meet this need, this class emphasizes the development of basic, comprehensive skills and knowledge and the ability to apply them. Based on the needs of students, a variety of effective approaches will be used to strengthen basic English competency.

Students are expected to complete required assignments after each class. It will take at least one hour to complete each assignment.

The final grade will be decided based on the following:
Speaking Task 1 (20%), Speaking Task 2 (20%), Homework (20%), Quizzes and You-Tube presentation (20 %), In-class Participation/Self-Evaluation (20 %)

授業の概要と目的(何を学ぶか)Outline and objectives
本授業は、豊かな語彙力・正確な文法力の定着を図ると同時に、それに支えられた4技能(リーディング、ライティング、リスニング、スピーキング)の総合的な向上を目的とする。理工・生命系の分野では、英語が世界共通語になっていることを受け、将来の技術者・研究者には必要な専門知識を英語で受信・発信できる英語力に加え、社会の要求に応えられる高度な英語運用能力の習得が求められる。本授業では、そのための基礎力・総合力・応用力をつけるべく、学生の英語力を基にどのスキルに重点を置くか見極めた上で、効果的な教授方法を取り入れて実施する。
到達目標Goal
Students will develop ability of using English language skills to communicate in various situations by building on their prior study in Comprehensive English 1. Students will continue to acquire four language skills (Reading, Writing, Listening, and Speaking) in English communication more fluently and confidently.

Students will do various speaking activities such as pair work and group work about suggested topics in the textbook. Students also do presentations using You-Tube. They are expected to work collaboratively to do various tasks such as group discussion, researching and presenting topics of interest. The instructor will provide ongoing support and feedback for students.

Students are required to bring either a smartphone, tablet, or laptop computer. Please make sure that it is fully charged before the class and can connect to the internet easily. Also, students are welcome to bring their dictionary (electric or book) in class.
