Comprehensive English I & II (1 credit each) for 【Outline and objectives】
This class reinforces the development of a rich vocabulary and accurate grammatical knowledge, and based on this knowledge, aims at the comprehensive development of the four skills (reading, writing, listening and speaking). In the science and engineering fields, English is the common language. Technicians and scientists of the future will need the ability to comprehend and communicate in English to meet the need of society for high levels of English. In order to meet this need, this class emphasizes the development of basic, comprehensive skills and knowledge and the ability to apply them. Based on the needs of students, a variety of effective approaches will be used to strengthen basic English competency.
This class aims to improve students’ accuracy and confidence in English Speaking, Listening, Writing and Reading. By using the textbook and issues it raises as a starting point for discussion, this class encourages students to see things from new perspectives and use the English language as a way to engage with other cultures and opinions. Students can expect immediate class feedback from their peers and the instructor, and can obtain more detailed feedback privately from the instructor via email.

Homework assignments will be set from the textbook. I may also assign reaction papers to short videos or texts based on class topics. Students are expected to spend 4 hours a week completing homework and reviewing class materials.
