Outline (in English)
The purpose of this class is to develop the communicative competence necessary for effective participation in society and the world of work. The class aims to help students acquire a broad ability to communicate, starting from familiarity with daily conversation to explaining topics of students’ own interest or field of study, while deepening understanding of foreign cultures necessary for global citizens. Based on a firm foundation of basic skills, the class focuses on the future needs and interests of students as well as the ability to apply English to research and work in a setting of small, leveled classes for maximum effectiveness.
This course offers an opportunity to learn practical communication skills in English through various exercises such as pair work, role playing, and discussion.

授業の概要と目的（何を学ぶか）Outline and objectives
本授業は、英語を実社会で有効に使用して仕事をするために必要な英語のコミュニケーション力を養成することを目的とする。日常生活に関わる会話に慣れることから、自分の興味のあるトピックや専門領域の事柄について英語で説明できるところまで幅広いコミュニケーション力の習得を目指すとともに、国際人として異文化に対する理解を深める。確かな基礎力の上に、将来的ニーズや興味に即した英語力、研究や実務につながる応用力をつけられるよう、授業は習熟度別の少人数制で行い、効果向上を図る。
到達目標Goal
テキストの内容をただ暗記するのではなく、日常の場面で実践できる英語力を習得することを目指し、実用的な英語力を身につけ、自分自身の意見を英語で発信できることを目標とします。
The goal of this course is to acquire practical English communication skills. In addition, students are expected to become proficient at giving an effective presentation in English by the end of the course.

・授業は講義形式ではなく、基本的に学生が主体となる参加型の授業です。毎回、小グループに分かれ、ペアワーク、ロールプレイ、ディスカッションを行います。また、本授業では、プレゼンテーションも取り入れ、効果的なプレゼンテーションの実践について解説します。
・課題等についてのフィードバックは授業内で行います。

本授業の準備・復習時間は、各4時間を標準とします。
・Unitの会話文を熟読。
・テキストの巻末にあるGlossariesに記載された英単語を確認。
・UnitのCDを聞き発音を確認。
・Unitの内容について自分自身の意見を英語でまとめる。
