Communication Strategies (2 credits) for【Outline and objectives】
The purpose of this class is to develop the communicative competence necessary for effective participation in society and the world of work. The class aims to help students acquire a broad ability to communicate, starting from familiarity with daily conversation to explaining topics of students’ own interest or field of study, while deepening understanding of foreign cultures necessary for global citizens. Based on a firm foundation of basic skills, the class focuses on the future needs and interests of students as well as the ability to apply English to research and work in a setting of small, leveled classes for maximum effectiveness.
This course aims to help students develop their spoken and written English skills through discussion and writing exercises. Using the textbook as a starting point for class discussion and homework writing exercises, we will aim to improve students fluency, accuracy and confidence. The class encourages active learning and class discussion. Students can expect immediate class feedback from their peers and the instructor, and can obtain more detailed feedback privately from the instructor via email.

Homework assignments will be set from the textbook. I may also assign reaction papers to short videos or texts based on class topics. Students are expected to spend 4 hours a week completing homework and reviewing class materials.
