Outline (in English)

The purpose of this class is to develop the communicative competence necessary for effective participation in society and the world of work. The class aims to help students acquire a broad ability to communicate, starting from familiarity with daily conversation to explaining topics of students’ own interest or field of study, while deepening understanding of foreign cultures necessary for global citizens. Based on a firm foundation of basic skills, the class focuses on the future needs and interests of students as well as the ability to apply English to research and work in a setting of small, leveled classes for maximum effectiveness.


At the end of this course, students will be able to:

•choose from a range of Communication Strategies to deliver a message to an audience over arrange of media
•write an effective summary paragraph
•write an analytical book report
•make interesting and meaningful presentations on a range of academic topics
•carry on a group discussion on a range of academic topics



Work to be done outside of class (preparation, etc.):

Each student should read two books a week from the library and come ready write a book review summarizing the book and give an opinion of it in the form of an academic talk or presentation.

Presentations should be prepared and practiced at home, and students should come prepared to give clear and smooth talks with limited help from notes.


Grading Criteria:

Homework: 20%
Class performance (effort, participation, presentations): 30%
Project Work: 30%
Test: 20%
