Outline (in English)
"Quantity" is the basics of science and technology and also daily lives. This course introduces units and standards which support "quantities", and deals with the state-of-the-art science and technology of standards, as well as measuements on our surroundings and universe. The goals of this course are to understand the meaning and basic principle of counting and measurement, and recognize this principle to be the backbone of scientific behavior. Students will be expected to review the previous lecture before each class meeting. Grading will be decided based on term-end report (50%) and in-class contribution (including in-class tests: 50%).

授業の概要と目的（何を学ぶか）Outline and objectives
科学・技術の基本というだけでなく、社会・生活にも必要かつ根源的な「量」について、扱いとその基本を習得する。そして、それを支えるための単位と標準の定義とその変遷を学ぶ。さらに、単位と標準にまつわる最先端の科学・技術についても概観し、応用として身近な世界と宇宙をどのようにして正しく計測・理解するかについて学ぶ。
到達目標Goal
計測・測定の意義、意味そして原則を習得し認識すること、そして常にこの原則を科学的行為の規範とできるようにする。複雑な数式を用いることはないが、基本的な「算数」が自由に扱え、評価ができるようになることも目標の一つである。

講義を中心として授業を進める。簡単な問題・計算(本来は暗算程度)を織り交ぜ、数値の意味とその評価を自ら考える機会を設ける。また、授業内で計測や数値の取り扱いについての基本的なテストを行い、理解を深める。
