[Learning objectives]
By the end of the course, students should be able to do the followings:
1. understand basic mathematical concepts associated with matrix analysis and mathematical optimization,
2. regard various problems in industrial and systems engineering as linear equations, eigenvalue problems, or optimization problems, and
3. solve simple linear equations, eigenvalue problems, and optimization problems by hand calculation.

[Learning activities outside of classroom]
1. Students should spend four hours for preparation and review.
2. Students are assumed to be familiar with basic calculus and linear algebra.

[Grading criteria]
The final evaluation will be conducted according to midterm exam (50%), final exam (50%), and bonus points based on class contribution and quizzes.
