Outline (in English)

The lectures on the basic history of psychology, including Japanese one, are given. The students are supposed to understand the background and the transition of trends of psychology from the late 19th to the end of the 20th century after the whole lectures. The slides to be used in the lectures can be obtained through Hoppii to prepare for better understanding. The grading criteria: 80% final exam, 20% attendance with small tasks.

By taking this course in the history of psychology, you can understand the flow of psychology. It was not until the late 19th century that it became possible to study psychology at universities in the West, but in order to understand why it could not be studied until that era, we first learn the prehistory up to the 19th century. After that, we learn about the three major trends in psychology in the 20th century and the development of the 20th century, which was called the “century of psychology”. From this knowledge, you can understand why current psychology uses statistics and experimental methods, while also utilizing individual subjective discourse as data.

This course assumes that you understand the content of “Introduction to Psychology.” Even so, if unfamiliar concepts emerged during the course, please review and understand them. The standard time for the preparatory study and review for this course was 2 h each.

The grade of this subject was determined by the final examination (100%).
