Outline (in English)

This course introduces students to the basic concepts of strategic management from economics perspectives. The rigorous framework of economics helps students to understand the interactions among firms in the increasingly complex business environment alongside globalization. This course will focus on, but not limited to, the topics as follows: vertical integration: vertical boundaries of the firm, horizontal boundaries of the firm: diversification, globalization, entry and exit, competitive strategy. The course also introduces real-world examples for students' easy understanding of each topic.

The goal of this course is understanding the logic behind various corporate strategy (eg. vertical integration, diversification, internationalization, and so on) and the game theoretic analysis of competitive strategy.

Students will be expected to thoroughly prepare each class meeting using course materials which provided through Hoppii (about two hours required), and, after each class meeting, to complete a homework assignment through Hoppii within a week (about two hours required).

Students are also expected to have comprehension of introductory microeconomics and game theory, while we will briefly review them within the course.

The grade will be based on the final exam (50-80%) and the homework (20-50%).
