Outline (in English)
In this class we will view various visual representations and also discuss what we have considered. There are many visual representations around us. For example, pictures, paintings, poster advertisings, animations, and films are typical examples of visual representations. Literary works and newspaper articles that are expressed through the visual symbols of letters are also visual representations. In the case of literary works, the design of a book is also closely related to the content of the work. There are two aspects of representation: expressive messages (denotation) and potential messages (connotation), and this class aims to examine the latter aspect in particular.
Students are expected to spend about two hours for preparation and review of each class, respectively.
Grading Policy: A comprehensive evaluation will be made based on each student's attitude, reports, and worksheets. (100%)

授業の概要と目的（何を学ぶか）Outline and objectives
この授業では、様々なビジュアル表現を鑑賞し、また考察したことについて議論します。
私たちの身の回りには、ビジュアル表現が数多く存在しています。例えば、写真・絵画・ポスター広告・アニメーション・映画などを挙げることができます。また、文字という視覚的記号を用いて表現される文学作品や新聞記事も、その例外ではありません。文学作品の場合、作品を盛る器とでも言うべき装丁（本のデザイン）もまた、作品の内容と密接に関わっています。
表現には、その表現の明示的メッセージ（デノテーション）と潜在的メッセージ（コノテーション）の2つの側面がりますが、特に後者の側面について考察していくような授業を目指します。
