Outline (in English)

In this lecture, students will study three essential topics in public economics as applications of the consumer behavior theory. First, students will learn the properties of the desirable consumption tax from the viewpoint of economic welfare. Second, combined with consumer behavior theory and the market exchange theory, students will learn whether a tradeoff exists between efficiency and equity in market transactions. Finally, combined with consumer behavior and game theory, students will learn that a voluntary market transaction does not achieve a desirable outcome with public goods. This course aims to understand these three topics from the unified view of applied consumer behavior theory. This class aims to help students understand how the knowledge attained through the analysis is related to the real-world economy. Students are required to prepare and review this class for at least four hours per week. Students are also required to review Microeconomics AB (2nd year) and the lecture materials distributed by the class support system (Hoppii) to prepare for the lecture. Evaluation will be based on classroom examinations (100%). Details will be announced in the lecture.
