Outline (in English)

In this course, students will learn about industrial organization based on microeconomic and game theories. This course aims to apply these theories to analyze interdependence among firms, such as price competition, product differentiation competition, and vertical relation. Students will learn the advantages and disadvantages of competition among firms and how problems caused by competition can be solved.

First, students will learn and apply the oligopoly theory, such as the Bertran competition and Cournot competition. Then, students will learn the theories of vertical relations between firms, competition through differentiated products, and entry and exit of firms. Since microeconomics and game theory are built on mathematics, this lecture will provide students with mathematical operations (mathematical formulas, proofs of propositions, etc.). Furthermore, the lecturer will also explain the correspondence between the theory and the real economy (case studies, etc.).

Students are recommended to prepare for and review each class for two hours each (in total, four hours).

Evaluation will be based on classroom examinations (100%).
Details will be announced in the lecture.
