Outline (in English)

The global economy of the 21st century faces problems of growing inequality, poverty, population growth and environmental degradation. Innovations that allow for a more efficient allocation of resources and distribution of wealth are being sought. This lecture outlines the historical process by which these problems of the global economy have emerged and surveys the main analytical frameworks in economic history.The key learning objective is to have the skills to analyse and use these analytical frameworks.Following Part A, Part B will deal with 19-21th centuries. 
Grading will be determined by an end-of-term examination (including essay) 50% and by evaluation of short reports assigned after lectures via the Hoppii system 50%. Students are expected to prepare and work for these outside of class hours.
