Outline (in English)

【Course outline】

It is self-evident that Spanish is indispensable in order to understand today’s world. However, one could say that still for many Japanese people Spanish-speaking world’s affairs are not familiar enough, and thus many of the possibilities hidden behind it remain unknown.

In order to fulfil this gap, this class aims not only to steadily acquire a basic knowledge of Spanish, but also to make a chance to have interest in the Spanish-speaking societies and cultures.

Specifically, this class focuses on communication, so rather than explaining and evaluating grammar, it seeks to promote active interaction especially by fully using already learned Spanish skills. For that reason, instead of taking written exams, it will put special emphasis on class participation and practical activities.

* First-year students can also take this class; however, it is desirable to already possess a basic level of Spanish grammar.

【Learning Objectives】

1. Make a pragmatic use of a CEFR A1-A2 Spanish level.
2. Have an enjoyable but also critical approach to Spanish and Spanish-speaking territories' society and culture.
3. Find motivation so as to continue having interest in Spanish in the future.

【Learning activities outside of classroom】

It is necessary at least 180 and 60 minutes for preparing and reviewing each class, respectively. However, it is very important to pay heed not only to the “amount” of time, but also to its “quality”. For example, it is essential to avoid distractions and factors that may cause procrastination.

【Grading Criteria / Policy】

1. Attitude in class (40%)
2. Class presentation (30%)
3. Self-study file (30%)
100 being the best possible grade, it is necessary to reach at least 60 to pass the course.
