Outline (in English)
Course outline: Reading American literary works, students think about people, society, history, culture and the student/reader themselves.
Learning Objectives: Develop abilities to read and understand accurately. Improve mind, intellect, and imagination. Cultivate intellectual curiosity about people, history, culture and society. Develop capacity to emphasize. Think in another language.
Learning activities outside of classroom: Read books before each lecture. Secure reading time for more than four hours, depending on the books you read.
Grading Criteria/Policy: Reaction paper (each class) 30%, Mid-term essay 35%, Final essay 35%

・文学作品を通してアメリカや世界の文化や歴史を知り、人間について考える。
・英語という他言語空間に身を置いて考える。
・世界で生きるための教養を養う。

3. 人間、歴史、文化、社会、宗教などへの知的好奇心を養う。

授業で扱う本（授業初回に配布するリーディングリスト参照）を事前に読んで講義に出席することが望まれます。作品や読む速度にもよりますが、4時間以上は十分に確保してください。
