Outline (in English)

Course Outline
This course reconsiders the history of Canada, particularly the political and economic developments, social and cultural aspects, from the perspective of British imperial history. Canada, a former British colony, is strongly influenced by its neighbour, the United States, on the North American continent. However, it still maintains its relationship with the United Kingdom as a member of the Commonwealth of Nations, as well as placed under the British monarchy. This course aims to examine from a historical perspective the peculiarities of Canadian nationalism and the process of its nation-building which still retains a strong British influence in various forms.

Learning Objectives
The goals of this course are to acquire a basic knowledge of the formation of Canadian politics, economy, society, and culture to the present day, and to understand the impact of the United Kingdom and the British Empire on Canadian history.
