Outline (in English)

【Course outline】
Within world history, we will focus on Western history, giving comprehensive lectures on important events from ancient times to the present day. In class, historical materials are presented as appropriate, and students consider what interpretations can be derived from the materials that led to the formation of today's historical image. Rather than simply remembering historically important events, we place emphasis on understanding their history and background.
【Learning Objectives】
In this class, we have set the following three goals.
(1) Be able to systematically understand Western history from ancient times to the present day
(2) Be able to understand the possibilities and limitations of historical materials.
(3) Be able to evaluate events relatively without being bound by modern values.
【Learning activities outside of classroom】
Prepare and review using the handouts distributed in each class (2 hours each). Read the references as appropriate to deepen your understanding.
【Grading Criteria /Policy】
Reaction paper …60%
Final exam or report at the end of the semester…40%
