Outline (in English)

 This class surveys the history of the United States in the 18th and 19th centuries. This term, history of racial and gender norms, which has exerted a significant influence on the division of contemporary American political landscape, will be focused and examined with special care. Students are expected to cultivate balanced sensibilities to differences of race and gender identities in our diversified society.
 A wide variety of primary sources, including literature, paintings, and films, will be assigned to read and watch and examined. During the semester, one book report will be required and students are expected to learn how to read literary text as historical documents. Also a few historical map studies are required.
 Grading are based on Book report (30%), Map studies(20%), and Final exam (50%). Reaction papers are essential to demonstrate good class attendance.
