Outline (in English)

(Course outline)How social mobility (changes in status, status, occupation, workplace, religion, place of residence, etc.) that occurred in medieval and early modern Europe had an impact on the lives, identities, and structures of people and groups of people. , introduces recent research results. Participants will learn that social mobility is deeply connected to historical development, and will reflect on how people living in societies during periods of each levels of economic growth can be positively involved in society.
(Learning Objectives)Even though the economic growth rate was extremely low by today's standards, the people of early modern Europe sought to change their status, status, occupation, and area of ​​activity, and sought to make the most of themselves by enduring the shocks of a different environment. Not only did he open up new opportunities, but he also created a social framework in which he could realize the person he wanted. Students will study the dynamic aspects of early modern European "society" and the role it played in shaping the modern era from multiple perspectives, and objectively understand the possibilities of social mobility.
(Learning activities outside of classroom)
・Be sure to read the handouts distributed in advance before class and keep the general content in mind (1 hour each time).
・Before class, I will research all the words I am learning for the first time and words I only know by name using reference books and the internet, and I will make notes on a handout (for 1 hour each time).
・After class, students will research on their own or ask questions to the instructor about points they did not understand during class (1 hour each time).
・Listen to the lecture, take notes on what you think, and prepare for writing your final report (1 hour each session)
(Grading Criteria /Policy)
・Evaluation will be based on the average score (20%), quizzes for each unit (30%), and final report (50%).
・Be able to understand the outline of social mobility that developed in early modern European history [1st evaluation process: corresponds to the 30% quiz for each unit], read the macro-level movements of history from there, By comparing and relative to the modern society in which the students live, we will see how well they have achieved a bird's-eye view to objectively discuss history [Second evaluation process: corresponds to 50% of the term report] .
