Outline (in English)

Course outline:
What do you think of medieval Europe? Some may think of it as a fascinating time of heroic knights and humorous Romanesque art, while others may think of it as a time of violence, filth and blind faith in Christianity. In this lecture, we will read historical documents to determine the relationship between fact and fiction about medieval Europe, and together we will consider what it means to know the past.

Learning Objectives:
The goals of this course are to acquire a basic knowledge of medieval European history, to understand the process by which historical perspectives on medieval European history are developed, and to understand the role of historical sources in establishing fact and fiction.

Learning activities outside of classroom:
Students should consolidate their understanding of the course content by reviewing the handouts.

Grading Criteria/Policy:
