Outline (in English)

【Goals of the course】
Studying histories from the perspective of social history, including its meaning and historiographies, and understanding nation, nationalism, immigration/emigration, and area studies. Raising awareness of many problems in the modern and contemporary world through such historical thinking.

【Learning objectives and methods】
Introducing ideas and discussions about nations, nation-states, and ethnic groups and so on. Including some case studies, examining events in world history from the viewpoint of social history.
Basically lectures, including answering questions.

【Learning activities outside of classroom】
Reading suggested books in the class to learn and understand historical concepts and events.

【Grading criteria/policy】
40% from contributing through positive attitude in class and book reviews, 60% from a writing test with notes, reports and summary.
