Outline (in English)

【Course outline】
The East Asian region represents a unique civilization that has endured through time, providing a shared cultural foundation for East Asian societies. To grasp the rapidly evolving modern East Asia, one must understand its historical context, regional nuances, and cultural aspects.
In this course, we will study the history, geography, and culture of the East Asia region from the diffusion of humanity and the emergence of civilizations to the expansion of empires during the pre-Han period. Our goal is to deepen our understanding of East Asia from an objective and multifaceted perspective.
【Learning Objectives】
This statement emphasizes that by studying East Asian history, students will explore historical documents and unearthed artifacts to comprehend the formation of the East Asian world. It encourages an objective and diverse viewpoint, fostering a new understanding of the region’s history.
【Learning activities outside of classroom】
Since most students are new to studying East Asian history, I recommend thoroughly reading the materials distributed in advance. Familiarize yourself with complex kanji characters, historical concepts, and geographical information. Additionally, review the recommended textbooks to deepen your understanding. After the lecture, summarize the content and your own thoughts. Allocate approximately 2 hours for preparation and review for this course.
【Grading Criteria /Policy】
We will have assignments (30%) and a final exam (70%). These will be presented as questions during the lectures, so please organize the lecture content in advance to be able to present your own thoughts.
