Outline (in English)
（Course outline） We will conduct a Japanese version of the so-called wug test; analyses of the results will hopefully give us an insight of the psychological implications of the regularity/productivity of morphology. We also take a quick look at an experimental study of uptalk in Southern Californian English, which examined the effects of discourse functions and gender.
（Learning Objectives） To acquire a very introductory knowledge of English prosody on the one hand, and for conducting controlled experiments (as well as a statistical analysis) on the other.
（Learning activities outside of classroom） To prepare experimental stimuli and actually conduct an experiment; to participate in the discussion; to conduct statistical analyses; to prepare for presentations.
（Grading Criteria /Policy） Participation (40%); presentations (40%); take-home exam (20%)

授業の概要と目的（何を学ぶか）Outline and objectives
言語研究の様々な分野を見ます。この学期は、
Ａ：形態論に関する実験
Ｂ：英語の uptalk（文末上昇調）に関する論文
を取り上げます。Ａでは、「規則動詞」というものが持つ心理学的な意味合いを実際の実験実施を通して探り、Ｂでは、南カリフォルニア英語における談話機能および性別による違いを見る予定です。

授業計画は、学生の理解度その他により変更される可能性がありますし、あるべきだと考えますが、いずれにせよ、学生の発表・実習がメインです。それぞれの発表にはコメントを行います。

また、大学院修士科目「言語科学方法論Ａ」の並行履修を、強く強く推奨します。
