Outline (in English)
In this course, students are expected to interpret English literature with a focus on (post)humanism, considering human-animal relations, ethical issues in technology, colonialism and class. The goals of this course are to survey the history of English literature on (post)humanism, learn the basics of interpretation of literature and improve English reading comprehension. Before/after each class meeting, students will be expected to spend four hours to understand the course content. The final grade will be calculated according to the following process: performance in class activities (30%) and term-end examination (70%).

授業の概要と目的（何を学ぶか）Outline and objectives
英米文学における重要なテーマである人間性や（ポスト）ヒューマニズムと関連の深い有名な文学作品を、政治的・文化的文脈に位置づけながら解釈する。動物と人間、テクノロジーと倫理、植民地主義、階級といった、今日でも重要な意義を持つ諸問題との関係で分析する。人間性、（ポスト）ヒューマニズムという概念の持つ可能性や限界についても議論する。
文学解釈の基本を身につけ、英文読解力を伸ばすことが目的である。
到達目標Goal
・人間性、（ポスト）ヒューマニズムというテーマとの関係で英文学を概観できる。
・作品と関連する政治的・文化的問題について基本的知識を習得する。
・辞書や和訳を参照しながらも、人間性や（ポスト）ヒューマニズムに関連する文学の抜粋を原文で読める英語力をつける。

授業時間外の学習（準備学習・復習・宿題等）Work to be done outside of class (preparation, etc.)
毎回予め指示された資料（レジュメなど）を読むこと、リアクション・ペーパーなどを提出することが求められる。さらに、和訳でも構わないので、授業で扱う作品をできるだけ多く自身で読み通すことが望ましい。
予習・復習は各2時間を標準とする。
