Outline (in English)

【授業の概要(Course outline)】
While public schooling has established a nationwide standard system to ensure people's right to education, there has been increasing diversity by collaborating with local communities(parents, residents, local organisations, and institutions).
This lecture will explore how region-specific initiatives within the public education system is enacted, examining their consequences from the perspectives of educational studies and other social sciences.


【到達目標(Learning Objectives)】
Students are expected to be able to achieve the following three objectives by the end of the course.

At the end of this class, students are expected to be able to
1) explain the significance and challenges of educational practices carried out in collaboration with local communities for children, schools; local authorities and parents, citing specific examples of such practices.
2) explain specific educational policies to promote cooperation between schools and local communities; and
3) analyse the relationships between schools and local communities using concepts and perspectives from educational studies and other social sciences.

【授業時間外の学習(Learning activities outside of classroom)】
Before and/or after each class, students are required to have completed the required assignments such as
- Rereading and summarising the material handed out in class
- Submitting Attendance Check Assignment.
- Conducting case study

The standard preparation and review time for this class is two hours each.

【成績評価の方法と基準(Grading Criteria /Policy)】
Overall grade in the class will be decided based on the following:
Attendance Check: 40%, Case study report: 20%, End of semester report: 40%
